Reasons Why Some People Can’t Surf

Surfing has become a popular pastime and hobby which resulted to having more people who wanna surf. However, not all interested surfers are able to hit the waves successfully. The reasons behind why some people who wanna surf just can’t are endless. But the greatest contributing factor among many others is the failure of surfing schools to give high-quality education to the beginners.
Surfing schools are a very controversial topic.
Even though marketing forces kept on making us believe otherwise, majority of the surfers are not so ecstatic about the introduction of modern surf schools. Even though there are some very fine surf schools operating today, surfers often blame surf schools for filling the lineup with people, who can’t surf. This is simply a generalization and pointing a finger at the whole surf school industry is quite a misguided accusation.
But the major concern is that everyone wants to surf and they wanna surf right now. They have the slightest idea of its difficulty and they want to make some short cuts. They want the ability of a surfer with ten years experience, and they want it in two weeks. Unfortunately some surf schools take advantage of this situation. These institutions know that once they explain how complicated surfing is in reality, they would get fewer learners.
This omission of the truth is a huge injustice to the surfing student. The newcomer to surfing needs to be able to trust the information given to them by the surf school operator whom they have paid, to teach them to surf. But it’s a sad reality that for many cases they simply can’t do it.
Also since learners naturally assume that they must be able to trust all the so-called surf instructors to guide them accordingly. These learners no longer ask the more experienced ones for guidance in the water. And conversely the veteran surfers don’t anymore offer it. So that means we have a self perpetuating dysfunctional cycle.
The problem’s root is this- you simply can’t teach a person to surf in merely hours or a couple of weeks at that, it isn’t just possible at all. Anyone who says they can do it is just thinking of profit ahead of principles. The absolute best that a surf school can provide is to provide you a glimpse of what it would be like to ride the waves as you stand on a surfboard.
Yes a personal surf coach, who is an experienced surfer themselves, can be of great benefit to the person who wanna surf over a period of time. But that would demand a huge amount of money. No matter what the newcomer to surfing may do, they must get in the habit of seeking guidance from the more experienced surfers in the water.
