Born in Portland, Oregon, Cade McNown went to San Benito High School, Hollister, California, before he was moved to West Linn High School in West Linn, Oregon, where he played as a quarterback. After leaving high school, he went to University of California, Los Angeles, where he played college football and became the starting quarterback when he was only a true freshman; he was ranked the best amongst all freshmen quarterbacks.
