Living The Life Of A Snowboard Instructor

Snowboarding

In 1995, snowboarding was recognized as an official sport around the world and since then, its reputation has grown. The growth of snowboarding, especially amongst the youth, is undeniable; and has created a growing need for part-time and full-time snowboard instructors in winter sports resorts all over the world. But, just what does it take to become a good snowboarding instructor?

First of all, snowboard instructors have to be skilled snowboarders themselves. A good snowboard instructor is well aware of the joys and dangers of snowboarding and can transfer his or her knowledge to those who seek their tutelage. A snowboarding instructor knows that his or her students have placed their trust in him or her to instruct them in the sport of snowboarding and to protect them in case of danger.

Like all good instructors from different fields and industries, good snowboard instructors try to keep abreast and up-to-date with new methods, variations or modifications in snowboarding technology, styles and techniques.  A good snowboard instructor has a high affinity with the institution from where he or she has trained and will work to keep the good reputation of his or her school or institution intact.

Snowboard instructors will allow you to choose from two forms of learning; namely, group lessons or private lessons. Obviously, a group session means that instructions will be conducted as a group activity. Here, a snowboarding instructor will cover different aspects of snowboarding in a fun-learning environment where each member of the group can interact with others to help develop each individual’s skills.

If you’d like to learn at a faster pace, however, you may request your snowboard instructor to give you private lessons. This one-on-one training session by your snowboarding instructor practically guarantees faster learning for you since the full concentration of your snowboard instructor is on you alone.

All I Ever Needed To Learn in Life, I Learned From Surf Etiquette

Life is a journey, and much like surfing, sticking to a few basic rules or courtesies can make the ride a lot smoother. The rules of surfing are universal codes. Let’s see how surfing etiquette can so easily apply to us all in our every day life.

1. No Dropping In. “Dropping in” in on another surfer is one of the worst surfing crimes you can commit. Dropping in is where there is a surfer on a wave already and you hop up on the wave in front of them. If there is a surfer on a wave already, the wave is theirs, unless they fall off their surfboard or pull out of the wave.

This surf etiquette rule reminds us that in life we should respect and honor other people’s choices in their life’s purpose. As long as others are safe and not harming others, we should not get in front of them and take their dream (wave). Allow each person to choose their life’s path and enjoy their ride. Everyone deserves the passage of a smooth journey to arrive at his or her dream destination.

2. Wait your Turn. Everyone is waiting for the waves, not just you. You need to be able to share the waves with everyone else. Being selfish will not win you any respect out in the ocean, or anywhere else for that matter.

Being aware of your place in the queue in your journey for anything is a great life skill. Don’t jump in front of others and snatch what is rightfully theirs.

3. Don’t get out of your Depth. You should know and accept your own limitations. If you are not fit enough or experienced enough to surf 15-foot waves, don’t go out there. If the waves are too big for you, watch from the shore.
