Skateboarding – Science Plus Art of Stunts

Before 1950s no one had imagined that one day a board with wheels would balance the weight of a person. The sun of late 50s brought a whole new concept of skateboarding. Swapping air with excitement was never easy as was after skateboarding. True sense of thrill and real side of ecstasy could only be seen with skating stunts. Normally, it is considered very hard and dangerous to be a skateboarder. But, skaters are not afraid to risk their lives for their passion. No doubt, skateboarding is a perilous game. Adventurers never think about the risks, they travel through the world of excitement.

Perfect balanced wheels are quite a simpler mechanism but it is definitely a tough job. Some people name this mechanism as a science and few regard it as an art. Whatever it may be, it’s amazingly perfect to be a skate-boarder. Manufacturers use industrial logic and science for manufacturing of typical classy skate-boards. Optimal results and superb performance could only be obtained if the boards are regularly maintained. Many skateboard maintenance kits are available in the market. Different tools like wax, bearing lube and rails are needed in order to keep them in good condition.

Ankle braces, skating helmets, gloves and pads are necessary items used for protective gear. Protective gear reduces the chances of getting injured and help to face the difficult stunts easily. Sometimes during aerial tricks or hi-fi stunts skateboarder gets injured and may get bruised or wounded. To protect a skateboarder from any kind of injury protective gear works as a shield against injuries. Skateboarding is somewhat related to art. Skateboarders use their aesthetic sense to embellish their skateboards. Stickers, logos and various decals are available to decorate the skateboards. A range of colors, shape and designs are handy so skater may use his artistic skill and creativity.

Skateboarding – The Evolution of a Modern Phenomenon

Five decades since skateboards first appeared on the side walks of the Californian surf coast, skateboarding has transformed itself into a phenomenon among the youth and has cut its own slice of the cult status. Some time between the 1940s or early 50s some bored-wise surfer beaten for the day by lack of wind and surf at sea tried to test his luck on land with a smaller version of a surfboard slightly modified with wheels fitted underneath. And it worked! Today he is called the inventor of the modern skateboard, though nobody knows his name or where he was born. He is only known as a jolly good surfin’ fella to this day. Skateboarding which had its origins in surfing was related to the culture of surfing and skateboarders also won the popular tag of rebels along with hippies of the late 60′s and the surfers of the 70′s. In Del Mar, California a young team displayed their brilliant skills on what skateboarding could be, in a freestyle contest at the Ocean Festival, which opened the eyes of the viewers and the organizers to the potential of this exciting new sport.

Different Skateboarding Styles To Try

Skateboarding

One of the great things about skateboarding is the wide variety of skateboarding styles that you can try out. Of course, you may prefer one style of skateboarding over another, but different styles help you stay creative and build up your skills as a skateboarder.

In this article, we’ll talk about some of the more popular skateboarding styles out there. So if you’re ready, read on and learn more about these styles.

Street Skateboarding

Street skateboarding is arguably the most popular skateboarding wheels style today. This skateboarding style involves performing tricks over urban obstacles, such as rails, stairs, benches, or whatever obstacle skaters prefer to ride over.

This style of skateboarding puts a lot of weight on the skater’s control over the skateboard. Because of that, the decks and wheels of street skaters are generally smaller compared to the ones used by slalom racers, for example. The trucks in a typical street skater’s skateboard are also stiffer for more precision control when doing tricks.

Freestyle Skateboarding

While street skateboarding involves doing tricks over urban obstacles, freestyle skateboarding is generally about doing tricks on a flat surface. Aside from the ability to do tricks, music and choreography are also closely associated with freestyle skating.

Many tricks in this skateboarding style are done in a stationary position, meaning, the skater performs the trick in place. These tricks in a stationary position also distinguish freestyle skateboarding from other skateboarding styles.

Cruising

As the name suggests, this skateboarding style emphasizes riding fast for as long as possible. Any type of skateboard may be used in this style, although larger decks, looser trucks, and bigger wheels would provide more speed and fluidity of motion than the typical street skateboard.
